With a tight pack of runners finishing within 14 spots of each other, Claremont High’s junior varsity boys’ cross country squad took first in the Varsity D2 race Saturday, October 20 at the Mt. SAC Invitational.

CHS runners finished 2-7-8-10-16 to score 43 points to finish ahead of Arroyo Grande (119 pts) and Rio Mesa (126), and a host of additional teams.

Yoon Cho took 2nd to pace CHS. The junior clocked 15:59 over the famed 3-mile course, and was followed by Michael Carpenter (7th, 16:20), Antonio Diaz (8th, 16:21), Askari Ahad (10th, 16:30), and Diego Denson (16th, 16:46).

The Wolfpack also won the D2 Junior Varsity Race with an impressive 33 points to finish ahead of Rowland (66 points) and 18 other squads. Isaac Martinez won the race with a time of 17:33, and was closely followed by teammates Cooper Holt (2nd, 17:41), Gabriel El-Jaouny (5th, 18:04), Luke Kendall (6th, 18:08), and Nathaniel Waggener (20th, 18:36).

In the D2 Freshman race, CHS won again with 29 points to finish ahead of Lynbrook (83 points) and 19 other schools. Jude Robledo took the individual title by winning in 17:03, and was followed by Chris Coles (3rd, 17:23), Jason Miranda (7th, 18:11), Ruben Denson (9th, 18:14), and Garret Landis (12th, 18:25).

The Wolfpack next competes in the Palomares League Finals on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Whittier Narrows/Legg Lake Park.
