Claremont HS junior varsity cross country teams ran very well at the Billy York Invite Saturday, September 23 in Riverside. While the varsity team was competing out of town in Idaho, the rest of the team came away with impressive local performances.

In the Varsity A Boys race, Claremont took third place with 77 points to finish behind Burbank (58) and Arroyo (64). A total of 12 teams competed. Sophomore Blake Bertrand took 7th place in 16:05 over the 3-mile course to lead CHS, followed by Antonio Diaz (10th, 16:12), Dylan Arreola (15th, 16:26), Diego Denson (17th, 16:27), and Daniel Schneider (28th, 16:41).
The CHS team scored a perfect 15 points to win the JV Boys race, ahead of 2nd place Gabrielino (92 pts). Twenty teams competed. Kevin Hamel won the race in 17:00, while teammates Joseph Camacho (3rd, 17:31), Andrew Patterson (5th, 17:53), Brett Safely (18:04) and Justin Apresa (7th, 18:08) followed.
Claremont eked out a team victory in the Boys Frosh/Soph race, scoring 54 points for the win — just ahead of Burbank’s 57 points. A total of 21 teams competed. Freshman Rowan Orlijan-Rhyne took 3rd in 17:06 to pace CHS, followed by Isaac Martinez (4th, 17:23.4), Nathan Hoon (19th, 18:15), Cooper Holt (20th, 18:16), and Luke Kendall (21st, 18:18).
