With a tight pack of runners finishing within 10 spots of each other, Claremont High’s junior varsity girls’ cross country squad took second in the Varsity D2 race Saturday, October 20 at the Mt. SAC Invitational.

CHS runners finished 10-12-14-17-20 to score 59 points to finish second behind Ventura.

Grace Dorantes took 10th to pace CHS. The senior clocked 19:59 over the famed 3-mile course, and was followed by Monica Fonseca (12th, 20:10), Camila Moreno (14th, 20:15), Ashlyn Heckers (17th, 21:00) and Alysa Aguilar (20th, 21:15).

In the D2 Freshman race, Peyton Cruz took 4th in 21:30, while Amanda Schultz took 6th in 22:36 to lead CHS in that race.

The Wolfpack next competes in the Palomares League Finals on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Whittier Narrows/Legg Lake Park.
